StoryKind for Parents

For Parents: Why StoryKind Is Different

Most reading apps give your child a library. StoryKind gives your child a story — one new story every day, with them as the hero.

Here's what that looks like in practice.

The Problems StoryKind Solves

"My child refuses to read." Reluctant readers are rarely reluctant about stories — they're reluctant about books that feel irrelevant to them. When the main character has your child's name and shares their obsession with dinosaurs or football or baking, resistance to reading time drops significantly. The story feels like it was made for them, because it was.

"I don't know if my child is actually progressing." Most books have no feedback loop. You hand your child a book, they read it (or don't), and you have no idea whether they understood it. StoryKind's comprehension quizzes after every chapter give you real data. The parent dashboard shows comprehension scores, Lexile growth, vocabulary acquisition, and reading streaks over time.

"The books at school are either too easy or too hard." StoryKind calibrates every story to your child's exact Lexile reading level. Too easy creates boredom; too hard creates frustration. Our system targets the zone where reading is challenging enough to promote growth but achievable enough to feel rewarding.

"I feel guilty about screen time." There's a meaningful difference between passive screen time (watching videos) and active reading practice. StoryKind is designed for 15–20 minutes of focused reading — with word-by-word narration if needed, comprehension checks, and a clear endpoint (the story ends). Paid plans include one story per day, not unlimited consumption.

Reading Modes for Every Child

Read to Me — The narrator reads each word aloud while it highlights on screen, karaoke-style. This is ideal for younger children, early readers, and children who find decoding tiring. They can focus entirely on understanding the story.

Read Myself — Your child reads independently. Tapping any word plays its pronunciation. Best for confident readers who want autonomy.

Duet — Your child reads aloud after the narrator models each sentence. The app listens and scores fluency. This mode is excellent for children actively building decoding skills, and can be done with a parent sitting alongside for a shared reading experience.

The Parent Dashboard

Once your child has read a few stories, you'll see:

  • Reading streak — days in a row with a reading session
  • Lexile trend — whether their effective reading level is growing
  • Comprehension scores — per story and on average
  • New vocabulary — words they've encountered and been quizzed on
  • Time spent reading — so you can see real engagement, not just clicks

You can also see every story generated for your child — the full text, not just a title — and flag any story that concerns you.

Safety and Privacy

Every story passes through four automated safety checks before your child reads it. Stories that fail any check are regenerated automatically. We also review a random sample of stories by hand.

We collect only your child's first name, age, interests, and reading history. We never collect last names, photos, or school information. We are designed to comply with COPPA and to meet GDPR requirements. Read more on our Trust & Privacy Centre or Safety page.

Getting Started

Creating a profile takes under two minutes. Free accounts receive three complete stories with no credit card required. If you'd like to continue after that, monthly plans start at €9/month — less than one picture book.
