What do the four numbers on Overview mean?

Lexile is the estimated reading level (e.g. 350L). Comprehension is average quiz accuracy — 80%+ is strong; under 65% often means stories are too hard. Words mastered counts vocabulary answered correctly at least once. Fluency (WPM) comes from Duet only; a dash means no Duet data yet.

What is Lexile and how does StoryKind use it?

Lexile measures text complexity from sentence length and word difficulty. StoryKind writes near your child's set level and may suggest increases when comprehension stays above 80%, or easier text when it drops below 65%. Adjust the level anytime under Children → Edit Profile. Broad ranges: BR–100L (pre-K), 100–300L (grade 1), up through about 800L for older readers.

How do I read the Lexile and comprehension charts?

The Lexile chart shows the last 90 days plus a projected line if reading stays consistent. A flat line often means uneven frequency — check the streak heatmap. The comprehension pie splits literal, inferential, vocabulary, and critical questions so you can see which skills need practice.

What should I do when scores look weak?

Lower the Lexile slightly or use Read to Me if comprehension is consistently under 65%. Use Duet when fluency (WPM) lags peers of the same age. Keep a short daily habit — paid plans allow up to three stories a day — rather than long binge sessions.
