What StoryKind stores about your child, who can see it, how long we keep it, and how to delete it.
StoryKind stores the minimum information needed to personalise stories and track reading progress:
We do not store: last names, photos, school names, email addresses for children, physical addresses, or precise location data.
StoryKind complies with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) in the United States and the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) in the European Union.
Before a child profile is created, we require a parental consent gate — a simple maths question to verify that an adult (not the child) is setting up the account. This consent is recorded with a timestamp and can be revoked at any time by deleting the child profile.
We do not allow children to create accounts directly. All accounts are parent or teacher accounts; child profiles are created and controlled by the adult.
To delete a child profile and all associated data:
Deletion is permanent and immediate. All stories, reading history, quiz results, and fluency data for that child are deleted. This cannot be undone.
To delete your entire account (parent account + all child profiles):
Contact us at [email protected] with the subject "Account Deletion Request." We will process the deletion within 24 hours and confirm when it's complete. Alternatively, you can use the account deletion option in Dashboard → Settings → Account.
We retain account data for as long as your account is active. If you cancel your subscription, your account and data remain until you delete them. We do not automatically delete inactive accounts, because many families pause and return seasonally.
When your child uses Duet mode, their voice is recorded for fluency scoring. The recording is processed immediately to generate a score and is not stored on our servers beyond the duration of the processing (typically a few seconds). We do not build a voice profile or retrain models on your child's voice recordings.
If you have a question about your data that isn't answered here, email us at [email protected]. We aim to respond to all data inquiries within 48 hours.
