What reading modes does StoryKind offer?

Every story can be read in three modes — Read to Me, Read Myself, and Duet. You can switch between them at any point, even mid-story, without losing progress or quiz answers.

What is Read to Me mode?

The narrator reads every word aloud while each word highlights on screen so your child can follow along. It is best for ages 3–6, tired bedtime readers, or when vocabulary sits at the upper end of what your child can decode alone. Press play, pause by tapping, and adjust speed (0.75× / 1× / 1.25×). Narration is on Monthly, Annual, and Family plans; free accounts are text-only.

What is Read Myself mode?

Your child reads silently at their own pace without narration. Tapping any word plays its pronunciation. It suits confident readers who want independence and school-style silent practice. Scroll through the chapter, then tap Done reading → to open the quiz.

What is Duet mode?

Duet is echo reading: the narrator models a sentence, then your child reads it back while the mic scores fluency (words per minute and accuracy). It helps ages roughly 5–9 who are building decoding skills, and works well with a parent alongside. Duet needs microphone permission — allow it when asked, or enable it later in browser or device settings.

How do I switch reading modes?

Use the mode selector at the top of the reader screen at any time. Switching does not reset progress or quiz answers. Many families use Read to Me for listening, Read Myself for focus, and Duet when a carer can sit with the child.
